Tap Announces Free Automatic SSL Using Let’s Encrypt

Today we’re announcing that all Tap sites will benefit from automatic and free SSL certificates courtesy of Let’s Encrypt.

Google started the push for a safer web back in 2014 when they announced the use of SSL as a ranking signal and since then the emphasis on a safer web has intensified, so having a security certificate is fast becoming the norm.

In 2016 it’s more important than ever to keep your site secure and not get left behind. Today we’re helping you do just that!

What is SSL?

SSL stands for ‘secure sockets layer’ and encrypts all connections between your web server and your users’ browser. It’s a must for ecommerce sites and gives you the confidence to know that communication between you and your users is private and secure.

What is Let’s Encrypt?

Let’s Encrypt is a revolutionary project aiming to make SSL ubiquitous across the web. The open source certificate authority launched their free and automated service back in December and we decided to start building an integration right away. You don’t have to do anything to make use of Tap’s integration with LE; in keeping with the aim of the project of offering free and automated certificates, we’ve built the process in the most seamless way possible. From today all Tap sites install and activate SSL certificates during the upgrade process (free sites have always come with free shared SSL). It’s automatic and seamless so you don’t need to worry about a thing. We also rolled out HTTP/2 as standard earlier this month so you can make the most of your SSL licenses.
