WordPress Plugin Of The Week: Google XML Sitemaps

The term SEO is thrown about quite a lot nowadays.

Whilst some of us are experts and can speak about it until the cows come home; others don’t have the foggiest idea of what it’s all about.

So this week’s plugin of the week – Google XML Sitemaps – is a simple and rather handy way to to improve the SEO of your WordPress site (even if SEO makes you want to run and hide).

What’s it all about?

Before we go any further here are two very basic definitions for anyone who isn’t a pro:

SEO or Search Engine Optimisation is the process of improving a website’s visibility in a search engine’s unpaid list of results.

And…

An XML sitemap is a document provided by a website telling search engines about all the pages that exist on the site.

Both definitions are in the absolute most basic form – in simple terms if your website is easy for search engines to navigate through then the SEO rating will be improved.

What’s great about Google XML Sitemaps plugin is that anyone can install it within seconds and immediately improve their SEO rating; okay the improvement might not necessarily be drastic however, as the old saying goes, ‘every little helps’.

We love Google XML Sitemaps because of its simplicity. The plugin doesn’t try and over-complicate things; it won’t slow down your site or reduce the quality of your site in anyway. Instead it provides a complete and effective sitemap recognised by major search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo and Ask.com.

All you have to do is install, activate and the rest is done for you.
